When the Pension Corporation outgrew their office space, rather than move elsewhere within the City, they took another floor within the same building and asked the AIS team to completely overhaul their entire workplace design. We created a space that fosters new ways of working, improves productivity and enhances the office culture for a better output on every level.
The AIS project team began by investigating how the team currently worked, and ways it could easily be improved through design. Due to the nature of the business, we identified a need for various types of internal meeting spaces; whether it be a five-minute chat or two-hour brainstorm. Creating areas which allowed staff to populate areas of the office other than their desk was key to this. Acoustics were also a factor in the designing of the space, ensuring that the densely packed open plan areas were complemented by quiet focus areas.
As ad-hoc corridor meeting were becoming increasingly common, we designed a number of different seating areas that would allow staff to be more flexible and offer available space to gather and collaborate. However, privacy also played an integral part in the design and each open plan space was offset by a focus area that would utilise acoustic materials to ensure auditory privacy.
A hardworking, multi-functional workplace design that enables all manner of meetings and ways of working. The ‘high pit-stops’ dotted around the office provide the perfect location for quick get- togethers (something that was missing entirely from the other floors); video conference rooms and phone booths allow staff to close off any noisy or private conversations, and there are two ‘quiet carriages’ – clever booths designed for larger, informal group meetings. A height adjustable desk solution promotes everyday staff wellbeing, and there is a relaxation library with bean bags and massage chairs, while the outside terrace is a breath of fresh air. The interior’s muted palette is punctuated by stylish mid-century style furniture pieces in bold primary colours, while the communal pool table adds a touch of playfulness.
