Design & Space Planning
This City-based insurer approached us with a brief to transform their office in London’s ‘Cheese Grater’ building through a workplace design that would carefully consider the needs and wellbeing of its team, the building’s unique characteristics and stunning views.
Our starting point was a featureless shell that offered huge opportunity, but also came with numerous and complex structural challenges. Our design team meticulously crafted an intelligent floorplan that ensured windows, views and light were maximized, while incorporating a well-equipped kitchen, several meeting rooms and breakout area.
We formulated a truly unique workplace design that saw the creation of a light and modern outward looking environment to give all visitors a memorable experience, whilst at the same time creating a functional office space that would attract and retain the best people in the industry. ‘Service’ areas were moved away from the perimeter glazing to ensure light penetration was maximised, the views across London framed like artworks.
A space where staff and views take centre stage. Simply moving around the office offers some of London’s finest vistas, from Saint Paul’s to Tower Bridge. In fact, there is no area in the finished layout where you can stand and not enjoy a dual-aspect view. Throughout the design there are also subtle suggestions of the company’s industrial heritage through the use of glass, concrete and steel; the reception area’s wall of 160 tessellate steel tiles proving a particularly dramatic welcome for staff and visitors alike.
