AIS achieves Gold SKA Rating for British Ecological Society

Discover the journey behind our office design, where a harmonious blend of sustainability and staff well-being secured a Gold SKA rating.

Two employees are shown walking through the BES office which achieved Gold SKA rating.

When creating their new office space, the British Ecological Society wished to consider their environmental impacts in addition to staff health and wellbeing. Ultimately they wanted to achieve the Gold SKA rating.

With this goal in mind, we fit out the space in an environmentally sustainable way, demonstrating that both AIS and the British Ecological Society take sustainability seriously and seek to achieve these standards in our spaces.

What is the SKA Gold rating?

SKA is an environmental rating system designed to assess and compare the environmental performance of fit-out projects for office buildings. The British Ecological Society’s new space has been awarded a ‘SKA Gold Workplace’ rating for meeting the design requirements, such as the use of environmentally friendly materials and products. Some examples of this included certified sustainable timber and 100% recycled dyed nylon.

Another important requirement was our considered design theory, like the reuse of existing materials in new applications and installation of energy efficient lighting.

Implementation

Sustainable on site processes were also implemented, in addition to waste management that cut back on waste and ensured high recycling rates.

This emphasis on sustainable practices is particularly important for the staff at the British Ecological Society who place great value on these credentials, reinforcing staff morale and CSR activities.
