Schroders

Schroders wanted to relocate to a new office due to their expanding team, they needed a bigger space that was also more suited to their team’s working activities. The move was an opportunity to achieve a design that was indicative of their branding and reminded their team of the core values of their company. And so, we were appointed the design and build of their new Birmingham office at Chamberlain Square.

Offering something different

The Schroders team wanted the design of their workplace to be something slightly different from a traditional office space. They had a strong desire for their Birmingham office to emulate the building architecture and ensure the space was coherent with the vernacular of its’ surroundings. As a 200 year old asset management company their new space was to reflect their brand identity and history.

A collaborative workplace design

With our consistently strong reputation of always gaining a deep understanding of the clients vision, wants and needs, we worked collaboratively with the Schroder’s team to ensure we delivered their ultimate workspace.

We underwent regular design workshops and ensured the team were fully abreast of all design decisions from start to finish. We ensured our relationship was fully transparent giving the team exposure to all samples and drawings.

Embodying brand

We laced branded colours throughout, whilst also keeping the space neutral and light. It was important to the team that their Birmingham office represented the business and its values. Therefore, we wanted to make sure this was the case as soon as you stepped through the door. Upon entry you are met with a large feature lit wall with gold finishes. Incorporating the company branding, your eye is drawn straight to the wall when entering the space.

Open office layout

Although the layout is divided based upon different activities needs, we ensured the space remained open and bright by using glass doors and walls so that from one room you can see into the next.

As well as the internal transparent doors and walls, we also ensured the design took advantage of the natural light that the building gets. The floor to ceiling windows spanning the floor plate allow for an abundance of light to pour in, brightening up the space.

The space is designed to accommodate a range of working activities. Alongside the banks of desks you will find several large booths. These are great for focus work as well as logging into a video call. There is also a large boardroom style meeting room which can be divided by a retractable wall to become two smaller meeting rooms when needed.

Throughout the space there are more relaxed style seating areas with sofas and armchairs which could be used for casual meetings or as a space to break out. This creates a more relaxed, home away from home style space that’s comfortable for users.

In the centre of the floorplate you will find the main break out space and kitchen. This acts as a central hub where the team can get together to socialise and take a break. Fit with kitchen appliances and essentials, a breakfast bar, bench style seating and tables.

The process took place during the pandemic which meant we faced slight delay with some raw materials. However still managing to complete the project on schedule. You can learn about more of our projects across the UK and worldwide here.
