When creating their new office space, the British Ecological Society wished to consider their environmental impacts in addition to staff health and wellbeing. With this goal in mind, we fit out the space in an environmentally sustainable way, demonstrating that both AIS and the British Ecological Society take sustainability seriously and seek to achieve these standards in our spaces.
SKA is an environmental rating system designed to assess and compare the environmental performance of fit-out projects for office buildings. The British Ecological Society’s new workspace has been awarded a SKA ‘Gold’ rating for meeting the design requirements such as the use of environmentally friendly materials and products, like certified sustainable timber and 100% recycled dyed nylon.
Another important requirement was our considered design theory, like the reuse of existing materials and installation of energy efficient lighting. Sustainable on site processes were also implemented in addition to waste management that reduced waste and ensured high recycling rates.
This emphasis on sustainable practices is particularly important for the staff at the British Ecological Society who place great value on these credentials, reinforcing staff morale and CSR activities.
